The Monkey and the Crocodile English Summary
A tree on the bank of a river was taken by the monkey. The monkey was happy that he had lots of fruits to eat but he was sad because there was no other monkey or other creature with whom he could share his fruits and communicate. A crocodile also lived inside the river. Gradually the two became friends. The monkey used to give him fruits and kept on talking.
Crocodile wife asks for monkey’s heart
The crocodile used to eat the fruit himself and also gave it to his wife. The friendship of both had become very deep and the conversation never ended. One day the crocodile was late in coming home. His wife got very angry with him and asked him to bring the monkey’s heart. The crocodile refused at first, but after that, his wife became very angry and hid somewhere away from the crocodile. The crocodile was in a lot of dilemma – on one side was his friend and on one side was the same life partner.
After much thought, the crocodile thought that the wife was more important than the monkey. He agreed to bring the monkey’s heart. He made a plan that he would invite the monkey on the pretext of dinner and his wife would take the monkey’s heart.
The crocodile went to the monkey and told that his wife had invited him for dinner. The monkey happily agreed. But there was a problem that the monkey could not swim in the water. Both suggested that the monkey would go to the crocodile’s house by sitting on the crocodile’s back. Both of them started walking. Crocodile did not stay in the middle of the river and told everything.
Now the monkey started feeling the rate, but he acted with a calm mind. He said to the crocodile, “Crocodile brother, I left my heart on the same tree, if I had told earlier, I would have taken it with me. In exchange for the life of my wife, my heart is worth nothing.
Both go back to the tree. As soon as the tree comes near, the monkey climbs up on it and tells it to take some fruit, it is good for the mind and body. And don’t feel bad if you don’t see me again.
The sad but already sensible crocodile goes back, in a hurry to tell his wife a thing or two.
