Activity 1 asks us to look at some fabrics pieces obtained from a tailor shop.

Explanation: On carefully examining the fabrics we see that it contain long threads arranged in an organised manner.
Activity 2
The activity 2 asks us to pull the threads of the fabric and know what it is made of.
Answer: The fabric is made of thin threads which we also call yarn.
Yarn can be made of cotton, wool, silk, polyester, jute.
Activity 3
The activity asks us to stretch the thread and see its end.
Answer: Yarn is made of fibres. When we stretch them its fibre become loose at the end.. This shows that yarn is made of many fibres.
Activity 4
The activity asks us to pinch, twist and turn the cotton wool.
Answer: When we twist and turn the cotton wool its fibre stretches and form yarn. The process is called spinning. This is a manual example of spinning. People use a simple machine like Takli or charkha to make yarn faster. Textile industries use a large machine to make a large quantity of yarn.
Activity 5
Activity 5 asks us to interwove a long piece of paper of different colour.
Answer: We use the same method to interwove the yarn. It produces a small piece of fabric. The process is called Knitting and weaving.
