Class 10 Science Chapter 15 Our Environment Solution
Brief Review
In an environment, biotic components like living organisms interact continuously with the other living organism and non-living environment. This interaction constitutes an ecosystem. Examples of an ecosystem are a pond, an aquarium, a forest, etc.
In an ecosystem, organisms are dependent on other organisms for their food and energy. This dependency creates a hierarchy of levels which we call as trophic level (trophic means food).
Organisms in an ecosystem depend on others for food. This dependency creates a chain which we call a food chain.
Usually, an organism depends on many other organisms. So, to adequately represent the food chain a web-like structure forms. We call this web as a Foodweb.
