How is small intestine designed to absorb digested food

The small intestine is meant of absorption. Food introduced here are broken into the simpler component and digested simultaneously. Following are the two factors which enhance the absorption.

Length of intestine: Small intestine is a long tubular structure coiled inside. As a result length of small intestine become four times the height of a human. It increases the surface area.

Villi: Inner lining of small intestine contain numerous finger-like projection called “villi.” These villi increase the surface area and increase the absorption rate. More ever villi are richly supplied with blood vessels. These blood vessels transport the nutrient to every cell of the body.
